Significance of Ugadi

Ugadi marks the beginning of the Telugu lunisolar calendar year and symbolizes new beginnings, prosperity, and hope. Ugadi is believed to be the day Lord Brahma started the creation of the universe in Hindu mythology.

Ugadi Traditions

The day begins with Abhyanga Snanam (ritual oil bath before sunrise), decorating homes with fresh mango leaf torans and muggulu (rangoli), and wearing new clothes.

Neem flowers – Bitterness (Sadness)
Jaggery – Sweetness (Happiness)
Raw mango – Tanginess (Surprise)
Tamarind – Sourness (Challenges)
Green chilli or Pepper – Spice (Anger)
Salt – Balance (Acceptance)

Temple Visits & Festive Food

Families visit temples of Lord Vishnu and Lord Venkateswara to seek blessings for prosperity, success, and happiness in the new year.
Traditional dishes like Pulihora, Bobbatlu, Payasam, and mango-based dishes are prepared for the festivity.
